Write for us
Rural Current Affairs welcomes considered pitches about rural places and the forces shaping them. We are interested in clear, original work that gives readers context and a distinct way into a subject, rather than a broad claim about country life.
What we welcome
Propose explanatory features, thoughtful comparisons, histories that illuminate the present, or close accounts of a rural issue with wider relevance. A strong contribution has a defined subject, a reason it matters to a general reader and a clear idea of what the piece will help them understand.
Shape a useful pitch
Tell us the working title, central question, likely reader and the main points the piece would cover. Explain what is distinctive about your approach and mention any important limits or uncertainties. Keep the proposal focused; a concise outline is more useful than a finished article sent without context.
Send a proposal
Please send pitches through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Include a brief account of relevant experience only where it helps us assess the proposal. A pitch is not a promise of publication, and we will discuss scope and terms before accepting work.
Rural places are never standing still.
We take time with the details behind change: who uses a place, what it makes possible and what may be lost or renewed.
