Rural Current Affairs

Editorial policy

Rural Current Affairs aims to publish clear, fair and carefully framed information about rural places and change. We make the limits of a piece visible and correct errors when they are brought to our attention.

Accuracy and context

We check factual statements against suitable material available for the subject and take care not to present an interpretation as an established fact. We distinguish explanation, opinion and reported claims, and include context that materially changes how a reader might understand a point. If evidence is incomplete or a matter is unsettled, the wording should reflect that.

Independence and conflicts

Editorial decisions are made for the reader, not to secure favourable treatment for a partner or contributor. We consider potential conflicts when planning and editing work, and will not allow a commercial relationship to determine an article's conclusions. Readers should be able to tell who is speaking and what kind of material they are reading.

Corrections

If you spot a possible factual error, contact us through the Contact page and identify the article and passage. We review corrections in good faith and update material when warranted. A correction should make the change clear rather than silently leaving a significant error in place.

Partners and illustrations

Partner-funded or promotional material is labelled so readers can distinguish it from independent editorial work. Any accepted partner placement is identified clearly. Some illustrations may be generated with artificial intelligence; where that applies, the image is labelled, and illustrations are not presented as documentary photographs.

Our point of view

Rural places are never standing still.

We take time with the details behind change: who uses a place, what it makes possible and what may be lost or renewed.
